Our feline friends are not used to leaving the familiarity of their homes, and are often very stressed by visits to the veterinary clinic. Confinement, a car trip, and seeing or smelling dogs, other cats, and new people is often a scary experience for cats. We employ low-stress handling techniques, but many cats are still fearful of vet visits. Cat Happy Hour occurs on the fourth Wednesday afternoon of every month. All appointments on that afternoon are reserved only for cats to avoid interspecies interactions that cats may find stressful. The lighting is low, noise is kept to a minimum, and the rooms are filled with catnip and calming pheromones. Cat owners enjoy refreshments, and each cat receives a treat and toy mouse to take home.
